Connected at First: A Shawl, A Prayer, A Sign from God

There are moments when God reminds us—so clearly—that we are never alone.

Recently, we received a handwritten card that stopped us in our tracks. It was written by someone in our community who had just walked into their very first radiation treatment. Before entering, they prayed and asked God for a sign.

And God answered.

They were greeted by a kind and caring woman who offered them something simple… a pillow or a shawl. But what may have seemed like a small gesture to us became something so much more.

It became hope.
It became comfort.
It became grace.

Here’s part of what they shared:

“Her gesture filled me with hope and grace… it was exactly what I needed to give me strength… I will cherish that moment into my future. God bless you and yours.”

The Power of a Prayer Shawl

That shawl was not just fabric.

It was:
  • Prayed over
  • Made with love
  • Given with intention

It was a physical reminder that God sees, God cares, and God provides—even in the hardest moments.

Thank You, Prayer Shawl Ministry

To our incredible Prayer Shawl Ministry ladies…

Thank you.

Thank you for being:
  • The warm hands
  • The serving hearts
  • The faithful feet of Jesus

Because of you, someone walked into one of the most difficult days of their life… and felt seen, loved, and strengthened by God.

This Is What “Connected” Looks Like

At First Lutheran, we talk a lot about connection—but this is it right here.

Connection isn’t just Sunday morning.

It’s:
  • Showing up when someone is hurting
  • Offering comfort without knowing the full story
  • Being used by God in everyday moments

Through something as simple as a shawl, lives are being touched and faith is being strengthened across our community.

Carry It Forward

Let this be a reminder to all of us:

You never know when a small act of kindness…
…becomes someone else’s answered prayer.
If you or someone you know could benefit from the Prayer Shawl Ministry, or if you’d like to be part of this beautiful work, we would love to connect with you.

Because here at First Lutheran…
We don’t just go to church—

We are the Church.
Thank you Ms. Linda Colley for sharing.
